3 Keys to Planning for a Purposeful Year

Well ladies, 2016 is quickly coming to a close and it seems like everyone is deep in the throes of preparing to welcome 2017 with open, hopeful arms. This time of year can be a funny time of both excitement over the promise of a fresh slate and new beginnings, as well as some reflection and possible regret over what didn't quite go the way we wanted during the past year.

Whichever side you find yourself on, I'm here today to help you make waves of momentum as we move forward into this brand new year together! Something I've learned in my years as a business-owning mama is that if you want to have a purposeful, productive year, you have to plan for it. It won't just happen, despite your best intentions. There are some essential keys that you have to remember when planning for a purposeful year, and I'm going to share three of them with you right now so you can get yourself ready!

1. Know what you want

This is so painfully obvious, but something so many people really gloss over. There is power in pausing to really think through what you want and where you want to go, and then putting that out into the universe by sharing with people or getting it on paper in writing. Nothing purposeful will ever happen in your life if you don't take the time to figure out what your purpose is! So, in getting ready for 2017, think about what you want this year. Think about where you've been, what you've overcome, how you've grown and what you've learned this past year. Think about what has worked and what hasn't, and figure out how you want to apply yourself to make strides of growth and change in the new year. Name your desires and destinations - this will be your starting point.

2. Identify how to get there

Once you have your desires and destinations in mind, you'll need to reverse-engineer how to get there. Map out the exact route you'll need to take to accomplish what you want to, breaking your vision down into goals and your goals into tasks. Keep things simple and focused and attach deadlines that will motivate you to take purposeful action as you set about following your roadmap. When you've mapped out your route, reaching your destination will be much simpler.

3. Stay in your lane

Lastly, don't forget to keep your eyes on your own paper. It will be important and necessary for you to set up guard rails to help you keep your eyes focused on what you are doing. There's no good reason why you should pay any attention to what those around you are doing. When you've determined what you want and figured out how to make that happen, all that's left to do is stay the course - don't let anything distract you! You do you, boo.

I can't wait to see all the amazing, incredible things that you will accomplish in the year ahead and hope that these tips will help you plan to have your most purposeful, productive year yet, in both your life and business.
